Some presents are for using and some are for keeping. A small jewellery box with someone's name on it manages to be both: it is where the earrings go every night, and it is the thing that gets kept long after the earrings have changed.
Our personalised jewellery box is printed in full colour with a name and a floral design. Here is how to choose one.
How it is made
The design and the name are printed straight onto the box with a UV printer, in full colour. There is no sticker or label to lift at the edges.
You make three choices:
- The name. The one she goes by, spelt the way she spells it.
- The box colour: off-white, beige or black.
- The design: one of our floral designs, or your own image.
It is from $15. Sending your own image adds $3, which covers us setting the image up for printing.
Choosing the box colour
- Off-white is the brightest background for a floral design. The colours of the flowers look their strongest on it.
- Beige is softer and warmer. It suits a bedroom with wood and natural colours, and it looks less like a new object.
- Black is the dramatic one. Bright flowers on black stand out sharply, and it suits an older teenager or an adult who would find pastel too sweet.
If you are buying for someone whose taste you do not know well, off-white is the safe choice.
Using your own image
If you choose "my own image", you add a note on the order and we email you to collect the picture. Things that work well:
- A child's drawing, scanned or photographed flat in daylight
- A pet, a favourite flower, or a place that means something
- A simple pattern or symbol she already likes
Things that work less well are very detailed photos with lots going on, which get busy on a small lid, and pictures saved from social media at low quality, which print soft.
Only send a picture you have the right to use. That means your own photos and drawings are fine, and someone else's artwork or a brand's logo is not.
Who it suits
- Teachers, as an end-of-year or thank-you present. It is a step up from a mug and it gets used. There is more on teacher gifts in end-of-year teacher gifts.
- Mums and grandmothers, especially with a child's drawing on it as the design.
- Daughters and granddaughters, as a first box of their own.
- Bridesmaids, one each with their own name, in the same colour.
- Best friends, for a birthday, where the name makes it personal without being expensive.
Getting the name right
Check the spelling. Check it again if the name has more than one common spelling. The name is printed onto the box and cannot be changed after it is made.
For a bridesmaid set, collect all the names in writing from the bride rather than from a group chat.
When it isn't the right thing
If she keeps a lot of jewellery, or large pieces, a small box is not going to hold the collection. The product page does not list inside measurements, so if you need to know whether a particular piece fits, ask us before ordering.
And if what you want is a precious keepsake made from wood or metal, this is not that. It is a printed box, made to order, at a gift price, and it looks like a pretty, personal everyday thing.
Timing
Each box is made to order in Auckland: 0 to 2 working days to make, then 1 to 3 working days to arrive once posted. Your own image means a short email exchange first, so allow for that if there is a date. Postage is worked out in your cart, and you can collect in Auckland for free. See the delivery page for the details.
